Is a Bedlington Right For You?
Bedlingtons are bright, clownish extroverts. They are always anxious to love, please, and be the center of attraction whether in the show ring or in any room of your house.
A Bedlington loves to play, retrieve, jog, help with chores, or share your quiet moments. They will curl up in a little ball or drape themselves across your lap and become your inseparable companion as you read, write, sleep, drive, or just sit.
The Bedlington Terrier is graceful, alert, intelligent, and entertaining. They are characteristically inquisitive, perceptive, opinionated and affectionate. Their great love of people and particular joy with children endears them to young and old.
The temperament is two-fold; very quiet when not playing, but highly aroused when their terrier instinct is triggered by a mousy smell or noise or when participating in performance activities. Being terriers, they do need training, but because they are so eager to please, they are easily trained.
Aside from the time committment to training the dog early on, time or money is required for grooming because Bedlingtons don’t shed. Many owners do their own grooming – see our very thorough grooming instructions – but many have their Bedlingtons groomed by a professional. And brushing between groomings is needed to keep the mats away.
